Canadian miner Ivanhoe Mines on Wednesday announced a $500-million investment from sovereign wealth fund Qatar Investment Authority (QIA).<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Under the terms of the private placement, Ivanhoe will issue 57.5-million common shares to QIA at C$12.00 a share, raising gross proceeds of about $500-million. On completion, QIA will hold about 4% of Ivanhoe\u2019s issued and outstanding shares.<\/p>

Ivanhoe said the proceeds would be directed towards\u00a0exploration<\/a>,\u00a0project<\/a>\u00a0development and\u00a0mining<\/a>\u00a0of critical minerals, as well as for general corporate purposes.<\/p>

Executive co-chairperson\u00a0Robert Friedland<\/strong>\u00a0said the investment underscored confidence in the company\u2019s long-term strategy.<\/p>

QIA CEO\u00a0Mohammed Saif Al-Sowaidi<\/strong>\u00a0said the transaction reflected the fund\u2019s support for Ivanhoe\u2019s critical minerals strategy.<\/p>

\u201cThis strategic investment reflects QIA’s conviction not only in Ivanhoe Mines’ world-class portfolio of Tier 1 assets, but more importantly, in supporting its team in finding, developing, and sustainably supplying the critical minerals essential to the global\u00a0energy<\/a>\u00a0transition and advanced\u00a0technology<\/a>\u00a0applications.\u201d<\/p>

The investment remains subject to customary closing conditions, including TSX approval. On completion, QIA and Ivanhoe will enter into an investor rights agreement giving the sovereign wealth fund rights customary for such a deal, including board representation should its stake rise above 10% and anti-dilution rights.<\/p>

Existing strategic shareholders CITIC Metal\u00a0Africa<\/a>\u00a0Investments and Zijin\u00a0Mining<\/a>\u00a0Group will also have the right to acquire Ivanhoe shares at the same price to maintain their pro rata holdings.<\/p>

Ivanhoe and QIA said they also planned to collaborate on further strategic partnerships.<\/p>

Ivanhoe\u2019s key assets include the Kamoa-Kakula\u00a0copper<\/a>\u00a0complex in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the ultrahigh-grade Kipushi zinc\/copper<\/a>\/germanium\/silver mine, also in the DRC, and the Tier 1 Platreef\u00a0platinum<\/a>\u00a0group metals,\u00a0gold<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0copper<\/a>\u00a0project<\/a>\u00a0in South\u00a0Africa<\/a>, scheduled to enter production in the fourth quarter of 2025.<\/p>

The company is also advancing\u00a0exploration<\/a>\u00a0in the DRC\u2019s Western Forelands, as well as in Angola, Kazakhstan and Zambia.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
